The Shanti Chair Adds a Layer of Privacy to the Workspace
True privacy comes at a premium in our modern world, with companies constantly shuffling their cards, vying to win our attention. The Shanti Chair by Futurewave for Inner Design aims to bring a sense of well-being and peace to the workspace. This chair, engineered to enclose the user in a fan-like covering, provides a sense of calm and tranquility in the midst of a regular workday. The clean, minimal hardware and comforting Nordic influence is clear – this is a piece to relax in.
The materiality of the Shanti Chair speaks to its inspiration. Light birch for the frame and Tyvek for the shade celebrate natural and sustainable materials, while also taking into account the user’s values. How much light should be let in? How bright could an included light get, without becoming too energizing? These questions are all answered eloquently here. The shade is large enough to feel cozy without constricting. This allows the user to feel like they’re in their own little world, free to be productive or more essentially, to not.
The seat of the Shanti Chair is wide and inviting, upholstered in a pleasant green. This allows for any cross-legged posture, encouraging a possible meditation if one’s feeling up to it. The soft light filtering through the shade makes for a soothing atmosphere, while not entirely covering the person inside.
Joachim Froment, Cédric de Bellefroid and Guillaume de Foestraets founded Futurewave in 2020. A Belgian cross-disciplinary product agency, they aim to bring design & technology opportunities into future realities. Delving into different sectors such as transportation, electronics, and furniture, this high-octane studio creates thoughtful, practical products, each meeting the needs of specific and challenging constraints.
Inner Design collaborates with innovative minds to produce furniture that promotes a meditative and calm headspace. Bodily well-being is top of mind, inextricably connected to our mental state. In a world where stress (and subsequent diagnoses) is the number one health concern for most professionals, clarity and stillness is a precious resource. Inner Design aims to combat this problem with the Shanti Chair, working exclusively with Futurewave to produce the highest quality product possible. Promoting peace must not only look good, but feel good as well.
